Tears

Blood

Jeannette Catsoulis in NYT on Gaspar Noé’s movie “Love”:

'“I want to make movies out of blood, sperm and tears,” he tells Electra, while Mr. Noé’s self-references multiply. A dauntingly gifted filmmaker who too often can’t get out of his own way, Mr. Noé seems determined to extol his own daring. But other filmmakers have dived into bodily fluids with similar gusto and rather more substance and wisdom, including Patrice Chéreau, with his gut-punching 2001 drama, “Intimacy,” and Catherine Breillat in her carnal odyssey, “Romance” (1999).'

Blood, sperm and tears, yes. Lars von Trier is obviously better equipped to handle blood, sperm and tears. But still Mr. Noé can also be considered an expert.

However, “Love” is a more disturbing movie than I expected. The message is unexpectedly straightforward: Monogamy? If you call it love there is no alternative.

The questions remains, how do we define monogamy?
