More heartbreak: My favorite waiter at my favorite restaurant Sant Ambroeus is about to switch jobs.
His name is Bennie. Of course this is not his real name, most waiters coming from outside the US Americanize their names for obvious reasons. Sometimes at Italian restaurants they Italianize their names, also for obvious reasons.
When I went to Kosovo, a year ago, Bennie’s brother took good care of me.
Recently Bennie asked for me a book to read on the subway. I gave him “Disgrace”. But he didn’t like it, although he was polite in rejecting the novel: “The ending wasn’t too good wasn’t it? Now give me something a little bit more cheerful.” Then I gave him “Tomcat in Love”.
I haven’t heard his opinion about this book.
One day Bennie hopes to open his own place and I hope to be one of the investors.
