An acquaintance suggested to come with her to Lab/Shul.
So on Sunday night, the beginning of the Jewish New Year, she brought me to Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn, with was apparently once upon a time a venue for boxing matches.
Completely different from the synagogue where I went to as a child in Amsterdam. To me Judaism in Amsterdam has always felt like dying slowly but dying with a vengeance, this here was more a matter of music and activism with a drop of mysticism.
God is optional, is the motto of the Lab/Shul. An optional God is always welcome. And artists and religious leaders have at least one thing in common: they have to renew the tradition (or not) and quite often they fail.
