Europe

Success

The mud wrestling-event in Kortrijk was as far as I’m concerned -- thanks to the excellent organization by Johannes and Sander and the female mud wrestlers -- a success. (Johannes and Sander will post pictures soon.)
The audience could have been bigger, but I’m used to small audiences.
A few hours before the mud wrestling I had lunch with the mayor of Kortrijk and some other people working for the city of Kortijk.
The mayor shed light on the political impasse that has paralyzed Belgian politics for quite a few months. (One could ask the question if politics does not lead to paralysis by definition.)
According to the mayor next week there will be another crisis, after which an “emergency government” will rule Belgium till 2009, in which year election will hold in Flanders and the Walloon region.
The mayor said also that states are a 19th century invention, nowadays regions are more important and at the end we are all Europeans. Europe is our home.

Today (November 5) the Belgian newspaper De Standaard published a picture of the event on page 35.
