On Friday morning my fingerprints and photo were taken, my appointment letter got stamped and I filled out a yellow slip, on which I could express my satisfaction or dissatisfaction with the services of this branch of Homeland Security. Then I went home, slightly pensive but an inch closer to citizenship.
