On Sunday night I had dinner with a good friend of mine, a Jewish lady, slightly older than I am.
She considers herself almost or completely assimilated. But nevertheless, it was an excellent way of celebrating Kol Nidre.
And as another friend of mine put it: when exactly is the assimilation completed? When you are unrecognizable as the person you used to be, as the person your parents thought you would be? The perfect assimilation is invisibility.
