The Hermann Hesse Museum in Montagnola near Lugano, one of those small, charming writer’s museums. In the garden you will find a turtle, on the upper floor, the attic basically, you will find a small temporary exposition on wine, Dürrenmatt, Rilke and Hesse himself.
Near Hesse’s typewriter there a several letters on display, a rather friendly letter from Theodor W. Adorno, Adorno cannot help but praise himself a little, modestly that is, but still, and who is beyond this habit? I was intrigued by the sentence that Adorno was hoping that Hesse would come again to Sils-Maria (Waldhaus?)
Hesse himself comes across as a delightful gardener, a secular monk. Probably a smart strategy to get old with dignity.
