Are you capable of selling your mother-in-law’s food processor? Have you read ‘Oblomov’? Are you capable and willing to help yours truly with his socks? Are you at least bilingual? Would you say ‘I’d rather die than taking no for an answer’, have you been to places, are you capable of disguising yourself as a dentist, a taxi driver or an opera singer? Would you say that ‘first my mission, then my fatherland and my family’ applies to you? Can you edit, are you extremely precise, are you willing to work in the middle of the night, are you a charmer, do you know what dedication is, do you follow politics, are you ambitious enough to skip your partner’s birthday if needed? Are you capable and willing to be transgressive if needed, all within the realm of the law more or less, needless to say? Have you read at least two of my novels? Are you willing to bury small animals? Are you equally comfortable in the company of gardeners as in the company of queens, kings, models, soccer players, torturers and politicians? Do you believe that stories can change your life? Are you looking for a mission that will change your life?
