On Wednesday afternoon I visited for the first time Westerbork, where my mother lived from 1939 till 1944.
A historian, working for the memorial center, handed me some documents relating to mother and her family, her parents, grandparents, aunt and niece.
Then - there was time pressure - we visited the house of Gemmeker, the house, one of the few original remnants of the camp in poor state but still livable, or at least visitable.
