Room

Spring

Hoffmann on Zagajewski in LRB:

‘Why the many prizes, and never enough, and the bookies’ scandalous odds of 8-1,
(behind, if you please, Murakami) and all crammed into the last years?
Why the closing date, our dismal 2021,
backwards from the first day of summer to the first day of spring?’

Read the complete poem here.

I remmember reading Zagajewski’s poem ‘Watching Shoah in a Hotel Room in America’ – the title by itself makes it worth your while.

But a poem about Zagajewski, the Nobelprize and the bookies with Murakami as an extra pleased me at least as much.

When all the complaints have become tiresome there is always the bookies to make us smile.
