Op woensdag 20 mei gaat Arnon Grunberg in gesprek met de Frans-Israëlische socioloog Eva Illouz, hoogleraar sociologie aan de Universiteit van Jeruzalem, aanleiding is de derde Evelien Gans-lezing die dit jaar door Illouz wordt verzorgd. In haar lezing zal Illouz ingaan op het publieke debat na de Hamas-aanval van 7 oktober 2023, en de Gaza-oorlog die daarop volgde. Volgens Illouz zijn sommige deelnemers aan het Westerse academische debat doof voor de ervaringen van Israëlische slachtoffers. Zowel de lezing als het gesprek zijn in het Engels. On Wednesday, May 20, Arnon Grunberg will engage in a conversation with the French-Israeli sociologist Eva Illouz, professor of sociology at the University of Jerusalem, after she has delivered the third Evelien Gans Lecture. In her lecture, Illouz will address the public debate that was set in motion after the October 7 attacks in Israel. According to Illouz, certain strands within the Western academic debate do not sufficiently acknowledge the experiences of Israeli victims. Both the lecture and the discussion will be in English.
