'Het Bildingsbürgertum, dat mijn ouders aanhingen, kent een aantal afgoden. Het boek is er een van, en die afgodendienst, zie Don Quichot, kan gevaarlijk zijn. Er zit een element van waanzin in dat Bildungsbürgertum, in dat geloof in Bach, Goethe en vooruit Cervantes; diep in de rede, in het hart van de rationaliteit, woont de waanzin zelf.’
