In his review in today’s Times David Leavitt is a bit harsh on Somerset Maugham.
Mr. Maugham may be a second-rate writer, he is still very quotable, as David Leavitt’s review proves: “The writer cannot afford to wait for experience to come to him, he must go out in search of it.”
