A.O. Scott was raving about the movie “The Kids Are All Right” – directed by Lisa Cholodenko.
It’s a good movie, but I wasn’t as enthusiastic as A.O. Scott.
First of all it isn’t a comedy, as A.O. Scott claims, I would call it a melodrama without violence.
But Scott is right about the originality of the movie. The actors – above all Annette Bening – are terrific and the dialogues are sharp.
Although the movie is about a lesbian couple the sex scenes are mainly between a man and a woman. The one sex scene between two women seemed to be intentionally slapstick.
“The Kids Are All Right” offers a lesson as well: Don’t invite your sperm donor for lunch.

And there is another more hidden message: even a lesbian couple needs a penis from time to time.
