Montauk

Daniel

Today, my favorite publisher passed away, Daniel Keel, founder of Diogenes publishing house.
In 1997, Daniel Keel together with his wife Anna, who passed away last year, was summering in Montauk. He invited my girlfriend at that time and me to come over for a few days.
My girlfriend and I drove to Montauk. We had dinner (lobster) with the Keels in the huge but rather empty restaurant of the hotel where he was staying. Later that evening a summer storm started pouring down; together with a few hapless waiters we looked at the rain – it was a Fellinesque moment.
Daniel always wanted me to write a novel about happy lovers with a happy ending, but I refused.
