Geert Wilders, the founder and sole member of the Dutch Freedom Party, declared yesterday on X, after seven members of his 26-member faction left to form their own far-right party: ‘And the sun will shine again.’
Yes, but for whom?
Gidi Markuszower, Wilders’ former right-hand man, who was once earmarked to become deputy prime-minister but didn’t make it through a screening by the Dutch secret service, led the revolt.
Exactly what the new party wants is unknown. Markuszower said that he wanted to do more than just mock Islam, but what more did he mean?
Maybe fighting for Greenland? Or fighting for the US in Greenland?
Wilders himself appeared to be a good sport, at least he remembered that he also once left a party.
According to the Dutch newspaper NRC he declared: ‘I will always go on.’
The far-right in the Netherlands is just waiting for a potent seducer.
