Mixed

Vulgarity

Tonight I went with three children and two adults to the circus. I hadn’t been to the circus in a long time, and I was surprised by the combination of vulgarity and craftsmanship; the deftness of the acrobats, the slight perversity of the show. Inevitably, one was reminded of Fellini but also of Günter Grass’ novel “The Tin Drum”.
The audience was very mixed, both ethnically and socially. I decided to go more often to the circus, even though the clowns made me feel uncomfortable.
