On Thursday night I had a public conversation with the Hungarian author Gábor T. Szánto about the Hungarian translation of my novel “The Man without Illness.”
We spoke about spies.
I said that there are three different reasons why somebody decides to become a spy; money, the lust for adventure, patriotism.
But I forgot to add another important reason: fear.
