Revolution

Longing

My first evening in Cairo – I’m here with a Dutch director and an Egyptian-Dutch actor to write a play about his mother. Wednesday I’m going to meet the mother.
The front desk manager welcomed us in an empty hotel, he said: “The second revolution was a coup. I support the army, but it was a coup.”
“So el-Sisi is Mubarak?” I asked.
“No,” the front desk manager said. “We long for Mubarak.”
