A couple of weeks ago I booked a room at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa for my godson, his mother and me.
For some reason I felt that it was time to go back to Montauk and although I cannot remember why exactly I booked this hotel, I’m usually pretty good at finding hotels.
This afternoon we arrived at Gurney’s.
“What’s this?” we said to each other.
Our room had a rather particular view: a parking lot. And the visitors in the lobby were a tad vulgar.
There were no other free rooms.
But the food was decent, the beach was empty and my godson befriended an angler.
“There’s not much more to do,” I said. "Let's take the parking lot as an adventure."
