I have mixed feelings about the no-tipping restaurant. The Modern is one of the no-tipping restaurants in NYC. Fair enough, it takes away some of the pleasures of eating out, but I can imagine that to many people it makes the whole experience more pleasurable, less stressful.
But when I left The Modern and the coat check lady handed me my coat and it was my turn to hand her some money she said: “No, thank you, tipping is included in your meal.”
I felt slightly disappointed.
Life without bribing people is not a very charming life.
