Lawyers

Work

Last night Daniel Kehlmann said: "I don't believe that artists and novelist have to sacrifice so much for their art. The average lawyer in New York has to sacrifice much more for his work. The idea that the artist has to sacrifice so much for his art is romanticism."
That may be true, but most lawyers put in all these hours for money, of course there are lawyers who offer pro bono legal services but we are not talking about them.
The average poet or artist is hoping for something else (or something more) than just money. Fame, if not now then after his demise, the escape from mediocrity, sheer ambition.
He must believe in his own art and that's probably a more or less romanic illusion.
