Last night in Brasserie L'Annexe in Luxembourg (excellent food) a man tried to explain to his date, in the English language, the strangeness of the Dutch verb ‘stofzuigen’ (to vacuum-clean).
He appeared to be passionate about this verb, he went on about it for more than ten minutes. His date was moderately interested, but then he went to the toilet and when he came back he didn’t talk about verbs and irregularities anymore. His date smiled seductively. Despite a brief hiccup everything seemed to go well for the two of them. Maybe it was a test, maybe that's what he always does, talking about more or less irregular verbs to see whether she is really interested in him.
