This strangely compelling dissection of the formative years of one Arnon Grunberg, child of two neurotic Holocaust survivors, delights in blurring the boundaries between fact and fiction.

World weary at 23, he matter-of-factly recalls unhappy schooldays, his father's slow death after a stroke and his liaisons with prostitutes, all with mordant humour.

Grunberg makes some telling points about cross-generational behaviour traits, which are no fun, but often very funny.
