Calamity

Entry

A couple of weeks ago I was supposed to visit an immigration detention center in Rotterdam, but the visit could not take place. One of the detainees had committed suicide the morning I was supposed to get a tour through the facilities. (See: here.)
(And see here.)
But today there were no calamities. The director of the detention center was a friendly and capable man, running the prison as smoothly as he could.
There was a ward for men, for women, and for families and couples. Some children, toddlers, were in the family ward. Minors are not allowed to stay in this prison for more than 14 days.
I’m not sure if a country that criminalizes illegal entry can be called civilized.
