Songs

Sister

June 8, my mother’s birthday. Last year the Dutch-Egyptian actor Sabri Saad El Hamus performed his monologue “In Praise of Mankind” (based on my book) in my mother’s living room, which turned out to be a hilarious performance. (See also here.)
Afterwards Sabri asked my mother: “Did you like it?”
She answered: “Well, this wasn’t exactly my cup of tea.”
My sister stormed out during the performance, because at a certain point Sabri undressed himself but he kept his underwear on.
This year there was no performance and my sister had decided to stay home, but my mother sat in her garden in the sun. I sat next to her and she sang songs from her youth.
