Finally I climbed the Lorelei, a famous rock near the Rhine, see also here.

The view was pleasant, tourism was more than bearable, thanks to the weather, and after a short break we returned to Sankt Goarshausen, one of the more gloomy towns in Germany I have been to.
But what else is there in the fall? A gloomy town in Germany, a Konditorei filled with octogenarians who haven’t bought new clothes since 1982, a few newspapers and an odd young couple with a baby. In Sankt Goarshausen life has come to a standstill.
